ALERT | Expect delays as N55 in Longford will be closed between Ballymahon and Athlone

Road will be closed from Tuesday, October 29 to Friday, November 1 to facilitate resurfacing works between Glasson and Ballymahon

Motorists are being alerted to expect delays as the N55 in Longford will be closed between Ballymahon and Athlone this week.

To facilitate resurfacing works between Glasson and Ballymahon, the road will be closed from Tuesday, October 29 to Friday, November 1 from 8am to 5.30pm.

Alternative Routes  

  • Ballymahon to Athlone

Divert in Ballymahon via R-392 towards Mullingar. Turn right at Kilgawny and take the R-398 to Loughnavalley. At Loughnavalley turn right and take the R-390 to Ballykeeran, then follow signs for N55 Athlone.

  • Athlone to Ballymahon

Divert at Ballykeeran, via the R-390 towards Loughnavalley. At Loughnavalley turn left and take the R-398 to Kilgawny. At Kilgawny turn left and take the R-392 to Ballymahon.

Local access will be permitted to Ballykeeran and Glasson along the N55 from Athlone during hours of closure.
