Longford man charged with violent disorder following incident of 'absolute lawlessness' remanded in custody

A defendant who appeared in court charged in relation to an incident of “absolute lawlessness" in Longford town which left a man seriously injured and hospitalised with a stab wound has been remanded in custody for one week.

David Joyce (28), Palace Crescent, Ardnacassa, Longford, appeared via video link before Judge Bernadette Owens at Longford District Court this morning (Tuesday, October 15).

He was charged with violent disorder and production of an article, namely a shovel and a red-handled screener on Thursday, October 10  at Deanscurragh, Longford.

Sg Enda Daly told the court the DPP directions are not available at this stage.

Mr Joyce was represented in proceedings by solicitor Fiona Baxter.

Judge Owens remanded the defendant in custody to return before the court via video link on October 22 next.
