Brian Higgins who has taken up the role of Acting Chief Executive of the Longford Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB)
A former county Longford school principal has taken up the role as Acting Chief Executive of Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board.
Brian Higgins has been a valued leader as LWETB Director of Schools, Youth and Music.
His educational journey began at Carrick-on-Shannon Community School, followed by his graduation from the University of Limerick in 2001, where he earned a B. Tech in Engineering and Technology Education.
Mr Higgins, who is orginally from Cootehall, county Roscommon, furthered his expertise with a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership from the University of Ulster in 2020.
His career has been marked by a multitude of educational roles, starting as a teacher of Engineering and Technical Drawing at Portmarnock Community School in 2001.
He then moved to Elphin Community College in 2006, teaching Engineering and Design Communication Graphics.
In 2017, he was appointed deputy principal at Coláiste Mhuire in Ballygar, and two years later, he took on the role of principal at Ballymahon Vocational School.
In 2021 he went on to become the Director of Schools, Youth, and Music at LWETB.
Mr Higgins takes over from Liz Lavery, who retired on October 1st.
