A deal to acquire new IDA land will be a significant support "that will underwrite the future of Longford", according to Fine Gael Minister Peter Burke.
It was confirmed last month that the IDA were close to securing the site for an advanced building solution (advance factory) in Longford town.


Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment Peter Burke stated he believes a deal will be signed off by the end of 2024.
The local Fine Gael TD stated there are some regulatory changes that have happened and he noted retailers and hospitality are under a lot of pressure so they will be watching closely and trying to intervene.


"We are working a lot with the IDA to acquire new IDA land and that is at a very advanced stage for Longford and I expect it will be concluded by the year's end," he said. "So, that is another significant support element that will underwrite the future of Longford as well as all that infrastructure money and broadband to improve connectivity as well."
Minister Burke said they are working to support family businesses in Longford.


"From my perspective and the department's especially with the increased pressure of energy we are hoping to have a big response there that will help people.
