The We’re Breastfeeding Friendly Longford campaign will be launching next Monday, 7 October at 1pm in Edgeworthstown Library. All are invited to attend.

The launch will showcase the many supports available to breastfeeding mothers. The initiative aims to normalise breastfeeding and support community spaces, businesses, and other organisations in promoting themselves as welcoming places for breastfeeding mothers.

This launch event takes place during National Breastfeeding Week which runs from 1-7 October.

We’re Breastfeeding Friendly Longford is supported by Healthy Longford through Healthy Ireland funding.

The campaign is an initiative from the Longford Breastfeeding Project interagency group.

The group's main goal is to build awareness about the role of breastfeeding and other forms of feeding and support parents in this area.

It aims to normalise breastfeeding. By working with local businesses and organisations the campaign aims to ensure that they will be better able to support breastfeeding mothers.

They are doing this by creating more comfortable and accessible environments for mothers who are breastfeeding, as well as continuing their ongoing work with Longford Shopping Centre and all Longford Libraries.

Research shows that mothers feel comfortable when breastfeeding if they are met with a welcoming, helpful attitude from employees and others, including customers, knowing, and accepting that babies may be breastfed there.

Longford Breastfeeding Project also focuses on education, linking in with communities across Longford to raise awareness of the support available for breastfeeding mothers. The group also promotes antenatal colostrum harvesting for all pregnant women, which is important to get breastfeeding off to a good start.
