Irish Kayak Angling Club bring All-Ireland Championship to Longford

Angling takes centre stage this weekend in Longford as it hosts two fishing competitions. Lanesboro is the venue for the king of the Lakes, but Drink will also host the Irish Kayak Angling Club as they compete in the second and final leg of their All-Ireland Championship.

“This is only our second visit to the venue,” organisers said in a social media post, “hopefully it produces the same quality of fishing it did last year.”

Competitors can avail of a Navionics UK depth and contours map for the event.

“It promises to be a cracking weekend of kayak based adventures and stories exchanged around the campfire,” the organisers said.

“It's only our second visit to County Longford and the Lough Gowna system but it's proving very popular amongst our membership already,” they said.

Irish Kayak Angling Club have members from all over Ireland and as part of the club year they run an All Ireland competition consisting of seven rounds including: Lough Derg; Cahore Beach; Ardglass Strangford Lough; Culdaff Donegal; Ballinskelligs Bay Kerry; Castletownbere Cork and as of last year Dring.

“We run a leave no trace policy in the club and do a clean up of every site on the Sunday, 99% leaving places cleaner than what they were,” the organisers said.
