The inaugural Mary Lyons (pictured) Memorial Fundraiser, featuring the best of Longford’s musical talent, turned out to be a magical evening last Saturday.
The event in aid of Longford Hospice Homecare and the Irish Cancer Society has raised over €13,300 to-date (well exceeding the initial €10,000 target) and this figure will hopefully increase further as the iDonate page (Mary Lyons Memorial Fundraiser) will remain open until January 5, 2025.
Mary was renowned as the proprietor of Lyons's Public House on Main Street, Longford and formerly on Bridge Street, Longford. She died on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
Mary's family (Joe, Brian, John and Anne-Marie Lyons) organised the Memorial Fundraiser in Lyons Bar and Beer Garden as a gesture of gratitude to Longford Hospice Homecare and the Irish Cancer Society.
Anne-Marie Lyons reflected, “Our fundraiser was thankfully very successful. We had a magical evening and a huge turnout. There was a real sense of community. It was a great tribute to our late mum and one she would have been very proud of. She was very much a people’s person and loved to see people coming together.”
Among the acts that performed were Citeogs, Output, Smear, Dan Magan, Mick Lane, Pascal Flaherty, The Coffee Beans, Sean Hussey, Charlie Dunne, Tommy (Taybag) Kelly, and Éamon O Ceallaigh.
Don’t forget if you wish to support the Mary Lyons Memorial Fundraiser and support the work of Longford Hospice Homecare and the Irish Cancer Society the iDonate page (Mary Lyons Memorial Fundraiser) remains open until next January.
