The urgent needs for increased investment in housing supports was one of the areas Rehab Group highlighted as a key consideration on the 2025 budget.
Senator Micheál Carrigy attended a Rehab Group’s Pre-Budget Submission 2025 event in Leinster House yesterday, where the organisation outlined key priorities for improving the lives of people with disabilities in Ireland. With over 12,500 people relying on Rehab Group services, Senator Carrigy commended their efforts to ensure the voices of those with lived experiences of disability are heard by policymakers.
The submission highlights urgent needs for increased investment in housing supports to enable independent living, better access to healthcare, and improvements in rural transport links. The Rehab Group also stressed the importance of developing a strategy to support employment opportunities for people with disabilities, including reforming the Wage Subsidy Scheme.
Additional priorities included securing proper funding for disability services, addressing pay parity in Section 39 organisations, and ensuring the goals of the Action Plan for Disability Services (2024-2026) are fully funded.
Senator Carrigy expressed his support for the Rehab Group’s advocacy and called for urgent action in Budget 2025 to address these critical issues.
