Uisce Éireann have lodged plans with Longford County Council for a Water Pumping Station in south Longford.
The proposed works are for a new Water Pumping Station (WPS) and associated infrastructure on lands off the L1164, east of Turreen Cross in the townlands of Lehery and Turreen, Longford.
The proposed development will consist of: booster set kiosk; site access gate; paladin security fencing; two surge vessels; telemetry pole and an ESB minipillar.
The plans also cover access road, layby area, hardstanding area and concrete hardstanding; connections to existing water mains and inlet / outlet piping; as well as all associated site works.
The proposed pumping station would be located between Lanesboro and Newtowncashel
Uisce Éireann is responsible for providing public water services and ensuring drinking water quality in public supplies meets the standards in the Drinking Water Regulations. In public water supplies,
Uisce Éireann manages the abstraction, treatment and distribution of treated water and operates 1,711 pumping stations across Ireland.
Longford County Council Planners received the application last week and anticipate having a decision by October 2 next.
The proposed pumping station is one of a number of projects Uisce Éireann are undertaking in the county, the majority of which are in the areas of leakage reduction and disinfection.
