Thirsty work! Eddie Bohan returns to Longford to launch his new book entitled 'Quenching Drumlish's Thirst.'

Drumlish once had 10 pubs and now it has four.

Eddie Bohan makes a return visit to Drumlish library on Thursday, August 22 at 7pm to launch his new book entitled 'Quenching Drumlish's Thirst'.

Drumlish once had 10 pubs and now it has four - there is much history in the life and times of the 'public house' pre and post Irish Independence.

The Irish public house has been the thread that connects many small rural communities, the social outlet for many where the publican was the cornerstone of village life.

This is the story of those pubs present and past, the people behind the counters, the stories of intrigue, unexplained deaths, rivalries, and revolution. This story travels through history from the 18th century to present-day Drumlish.

Eddie Bohan has a long tradition in the bar business and has conducted public house history tours for Heritage Week in the past. He has published several pub histories including The Stags Head, Murphy's of Rathmines, and The Vintage, Irishtown.

He has also written the book Thirst for Freedom which tells the story of the role of the public house in the fight for Irish Independence.

Eddie's family hails from Drumshanbo South and Esker North and for many years spent his summers on his grandfather's farm.
