A 10km fun cycle will be held in Kenagh on Sunday, June 30.

The event will be held in aid of Kenagh District Development Association and the Tidy Towns.

An extra attraction this year will be country music star Cliona Hagan, who will perform after the cycle in O’Boyle’s pub.

The cycle will start at 2pm but the event will also cater for walkers and children, as Brian Egan, one of the organisers explained.

“Younger children and walkers can take a route around the Mosstown estate. We are encouraging people to bring high nellie bicycles and dress up in period costume, if they wish.

The cycle will take place on cycleways around Kenagh,” Brian stated.

“Following the cycle, there will be a barbeque in O’Boyle’s, with Cliona Hagan singing,” he added.

On the day, there will also be a raffle. Registration for the cycle will start at Gav’s Bar in the village and end in O’Boyle’s.
Tickets for the cycle (which includes admission to the barbecue) cost €10 or €20 per family.

Last year, the event was a significant fundraiser. “We raised €5,500 last year from this cycle. That money has been put to use on work in the village and surrounding areas. That work has included 25 new flower beds. In line with biodiversity work that is being done nationwide, native wildflowers are getting planted,” Brian explained.

“Boxes have been made for the flowers locally by volunteers. Flower beds have also been placed outside estates in Kenagh,” he added.

Kenagh District Development Association covers surrounding areas, with Kenagh itself the hub.

“We have good numbers involved in volunteering around the area,” Brian commented.

The event attracted around 100 cyclists last year. It has also been supported well financially.

“Droplink are our main sponsor. But other sponsors locally have chipped in as well,” Brian explained.
