Longford has been voted 15th best place to live in Ireland.

Likeplace.ie finds and rates communities in Ireland and out of nearly ten thousand ratings, Longford has come 15th.

Louth comes up top in the survey as the best county to live in while Longford ranks above Westmeath, Kildare, Offaly and even Dublin and Cork.

Each county is rated out of 5 and Longford received 3.8. Within the ratings, the quality of life is also measured out of 5. Our environment and schools were scored high with 4.1 and 4 respectively while cost of living fell short at a 2.9 rating. We have a high estimation in our sense of community which received 3.9 and we have a strong sense of security as law and order was given a score of 3.8.

Comments on the website gave glowing reviews of the county with one user stating; “It has everything anyone one would want. It is probably the most underrated town in Ireland”. Another contributor said “Longford really isn’t like anywhere else in the world to be honest. It has a very urban feel to it, yet, the fresh country air is only 10 minutes out of town. The sense of community is over-whelming all over different parts of town” (sic).

Within the county, Newtownforbes was voted the best place to live with Drumlish a close second. Ballymahon had the least amount of votes with 1.8 out of 5.
