The late Peter Bohan.

Peter (Oliver) Bohan, whose body was found last week, following an extensive search, was laid to rest today (Wednesday).

Mr Bohan, a resident of Cloonellan, Drumlish had gone missing on Sunday, May 12 last.

His remains were found on Thursday evening of last week.

His funeral mass took place earlier today in St Mary’s Church, Drumlish.

Fr Ciaran McGovern, parish priest of Newtownforbes, was the chief celebrant. He told the mourners that, “good neighbourliness was displayed in the search for Peter. People rallied to the cause, giving their time and energy.”

Other celebrants of the funeral mass were Fr Bernard Hogan, parish priest of Drumlish and Fr Liam Courtney.

Describing the late Peter Bohan as a “devoted husband and father,” Fr McGovern said that he “loved his job, taking milk to the creamery. He loved meeting people and he worked hard to provide a good education for his daughters, Caroline and Antoinette.”

“The creamery was like the well in the time of Jesus, a meeting place,” Fr McGovern added.

Fr McGovern told the congregation that Peter had met his wife Maura in the “Mayflower Ballroom, Drumshanbo, which was a popular dance hall of that era.”

Symbols brought to the altar at the start of the mass included a toy David Browne tractor and a vintage tractors magazine. These reflected Peter’s love of David Browne tractors.

“Jesus said ‘there are many rooms in my father’s house’. We pray that Peter is now enjoying one of those rooms,” Fr. McGovern told the mourners.

“We thank God for his blessings. We pray that God will reward Peter and forgive his sins,” he added.

At the end of the funeral mass, Peter’s daughters said they were “heartbroken” but “glad he is being laid to rest in peace.”  They also thanked people who had helped in the search for their father’s remains.

Following the funeral mass, Peter was laid to rest in the cemetery in Drumlish.

Peter Oliver was beloved husband of Maura and dear father to Antoinette and Caroline. Predeceased by his parents, Annie and Cornelius and his brothers James and Corney. Peter Oliver will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his heartbroken family, his daughters' partners, Micho and Dara, his sister Annamae Cosgrove, brother John, brother-in-law James, sister-in-law Joan, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May he Rest In Peace.
