Longford man jailed for string of offences over five years

A defendant before Longford District Court on 26 charges received a 16 month custodial sentence from Judge Vincent Deane.
Shane Nevin (35) of 67 Farnagh, Longford was before the court on a number of charges dating back to 2019.
The charges against Mr Nevin include failing to keep a court appointment on June 21, 2022, the theft of a wallet on March 4, 2022, public intoxication and failing to comply with the directions of a Garda on August 2, 2021.

Charges from August 12, 2019 at Market Square, Longford are of failing to comply with the direction of a Garda, public intoxication and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour. On January 9, 2021 the defendant was accused of engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour at Main Street, Longford. A charge from March 31, 2021 is that Mr Nevin is accused of causing €450 of damage to the ice cream cone display at The Kiosk, Dublin Street, Longford.

The defendant is also charged with failing to keep a court appointment on February 8, 2022, threatening and abusive behaviour and assault at Boyle Sports, Market Square, Longford on March 2, 2022, failing to comply with Garda directions and public intoxication on Dublin Street, Longford on May 4, 2022.
In March of this year the defendant handled stolen property, a bank card owned by another person, and tried to purchase a bottle of vodka but couldn't enter the pin number when requested. On the same date at Longford Garda Station he damaged a hand sanitizer unit valued at €50.

On November 15, 2023 at Garvey's Yard Lane, Main Street, Longford he was loitering in a public place and failed to comply with the directions of Sgt Conlon.
Also on March 27, 2024 he was in an altercation with Kamil Bulzak in which the two men were pushing and shoving each other in the middle of the road. Members of the public tried to stop the fight, but the parties kept fighting.
On April 9, 2024 at Longford Train Station he engaged in threatening and abusive behaviour. He was in the company of Shannon Kavanagh and both were highly intoxicated.

Solicitor John Quinn indicated that his client had entered guilty pleas to the matters before the court.
Mr Quinn said his client comes from a respectable family and hopes to address the issues that are at the heart of his offending: “Shane is looking to reform himself and leave his difficulties behind him,” Mr Quinn said.

In concluding matter Judge Deane imposed a four month sentence for the theft of the wallet, a further four months for handling the stolen bank card, four months for the assault on Kamil Bulczak and four months for the assault at Boyle Sports.
Mr Nevin's sentences are to be served consecutively, meaning he will serve a total of 16 months. Recognisance was set in the event of an appeal on the defendant's own bond of €900.
