A 72 year old County Longford lady has been knocked down in a car accident on the Athlone Road, Longford.
The incident took place at the pedestrian crossing located near Aldi supermarket.
The accident, which occured shortly after 5pm this evening (Monday, February 14), resulted in the lady being rushed to Mullingar General Hospital with what were believed to be serious head and arm injuries.
The lady, who cannot be named until all relatives have been notified, is now in a stable condition at the hospital.
Longford Gardai have confirmed that the vehicle involved in the accident was a Fiat Punto and that the driver was treated for shock at the scene of the accident.
The scene has been investigated by members of the Garda Forensic Team and the road has been reopened.
