Next year the St Vincent de Paul Society will need over 60 million euro to fund its services for families in need in Ireland and expects to answer 100,000 calls for assistance coming up to Christmas. Almost 50% of calls to SVP are for assistance with basics such as food and fuel. Here in Mohill and the surrounding parishes we have spent over 20,000 euro this year helping families with fuel, grocery, clothing and education expenses. Our largest expenditure was in the area of education with 12,000 euro provided to local students in further education. Many of these students are the first in their families to progress to further education and without this assistance from SVP would find it very difficult to afford college. Christmas with its extra financial burdens can be a very stressful time for many families in difficult circumstances. This is particularly so with the removal of the Christmas bonus last year. This Christmas we hope to provide assistance to over 100 families with the proceeds from our Church gate collections in Mohill, Eslin, Gorvagh, Bornacoola, Cloonturk, Gortletteragh, Fearglass, Cornageeha, Aughavas, Annaduff, Carrigallen and Fenagh on the weekend of December 11th & 12th. We would appreciate your support and we'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Mohill and the surrounding parishes for their generous support of our Church gate collections over the past year.
