Calls for report on engineers

Cllr Michael Connellan (FF) has requested a report on the number of engineers currently working at Longford Co Council.

Cllr Michael Connellan (FF) has requested a report on the number of engineers currently working at Longford Co Council.

The request was made after it emerged that there were a number of infrastructural works earmarked for the town that the town councillor believed had not being carried out within an appropriate timeframe or carried out inadequately.

“I’m really angry about this; we have a sewerage treatment plant that you have to walk through the Rugby Club to get to and a whole plethora of issues that really are just not acceptable,” he said. “In the good times there were 55 engineers working in Longford Co Council so with retirements etc in recent times, I would like to know how many are there now.

“I’d say 49,” said Tony Flaherty (FF) which brought an outburst of laughter to proceedings. “Well, while we are at it, I think that we should also consider holding a special housing meeting - there are certainly matters in that area that do need to be addressed as well,” concluded Cllr Connellan.
