An unknown quantity of home heating oil was stolen from a house in Longford town this week, re-igniting concerns organised gangs are travelling around estates stealing home heating oil.

The thieves targeted a house in the Ardnacassa area of the town during the early hours of last Wednesday morning, gardai have said.

A lock guarding the contents of a nearby cylinder was cut by the perpetrators sometime between 2:30am and 8pm.
