RehabCare Longford are holding a fundraising homemade crafts sale in the Longford shopping centre from the Tuesday, March 26 until Thursday, March 28 from 10.30am to 2.30pm each day
The group from RehabCare Longford are hosting a series of community fundraising events in 2024, to raise money to convert a space in the centre.
The staff and service users of the Longford disability support centre are working together on exciting plans to develop an existing shed on the grounds, intending to convert the space into a multi-function programmes room to deliver many creative opportunities for the group.
RehabCare Longford offers personalised support to twenty-two people, empowering them to fulfil goals, gain independence and confidence, take part in activities that suit their wishes and needs, and build connections.
Sally Budd, Community Services Manager at RehabCare Longford, said: “At the moment we are rather limited with what we can do with our group in our centre because we don’t have that extra, physical space.
Our group has always been very involved with the community, but we are hoping that this converted shed will bring an abundance of new opportunities to our centre. This will open so many doors and build more bridges within the local community.
“It will be just amazing to create this together, with our staff team and the members of our service. It will allow us to welcome more tutors and community leaders into our centre, for our group to get more involved in arts and crafts, metalwork, and woodwork, in a dynamic new space.”
Ms Budd continued, “We need some extra funds to get the project underway, so we are organising a series of fun events. Everyone in our centre plans these events together.
The service users decide what fundraisers they would like to do, and we try to be inclusive, so if one event may not suit someone, another event might suit them more. We hope that everybody in Longford gets involved. We welcome them to come along, meet our group, become more aware of the work we do, and be part of something special.”
RehabCare Longford have a fundraising event taking place in the Longford shopping centre from the Tuesday, March 26 until Thursday, March 28 from 10.30am to 2.30pm each day which will give the public a chance to meet their staff and service users and show their support by buying some of the many wonderful homemade crafts, on display which were made by service users, staff and friends of RehabCare Longford.
This will help them to convert the shed into a space which can be used and enjoyed by all the service users and help them to achieve their goals and wishes.
Further fundraisers include a disco in the Longford Arms Hotel in July. Ms Budd remarked: “This is a brilliant venue, and it will be a huge event that brings together so many people from the area.
We will also be hosting the RehabCare nationwide ‘A Cup Of Care’ fundraising event in October, followed by our Christmas market in December. We very much appreciate the shops and businesses that are donating prizes for the quiz and all the support from organisations far and wide.”
The RehabCare Longford group are encouraging everyone to get involved by coming along to the events. For more information, please email: fundraising@rehab.ie
