Major road and reconstruction works are set to take place on the Ballinalee Road, with traffic disruption expected for the duration of the project.
A full road closure will take place from St Mel’s Road to the entrance of Springlawn for five weeks from June 18 while works are underway. In preparation for the works, traffic has been reduced to one lane, outbound from the town, since last Monday.
Approximately 520 metres of resurfacing will take place on the road with kerbs and footpaths also being replaced during the construction. It is expected works will take approximately ten weeks.
Speaking at last Wednesday’s Council meeting, Cllr Denis Glennon welcomed the works but asked if any works carried out during the Leaving and Junior Cert exams could be curtailed, out of respect for the students in St Mel’s College sitting exams.
The former St Mel’s College principal said, “These works are taking place smack bang in the middle of the exams. I would ask that any noisy work carried out during exam hours should be put off and other work done at those times.”
