Second level teachers across the county protested outside school gates last Tuesday duing their lunchbreaks as part of a national protest by the TUI and ASTI to highlight their concerns over proposed changes to the Junior Cycle programme.
Teachers are angered by the proposals to discontinue external assesment of students at Junior Cert level . The y feel the proposed changes would great alter the teacher -pupil dynamic in schools.
Explaining the protest, TUI President Gerard Craughwell said, “ There remains an unacceptable lack of information about how the new programme will work, and how it will be resourced. With less the six months before implementation is scheduled, this is not good enough. Change without preparation can cause lasting damage to the education system and the educational experience of students.”
