Concerns have been expressed about rising compensation claims levelled against local authorities.
It comes after a meeting of Longford Town Council last week heard how one case, where an individual fell and injured their arm in the Congress Terrace area of town, resulted in a total payout of over €32,000.
News of the large sums involved was met with much derision within the chamber.
Cllr Mae Sexton urged Irish Public Bodies, the organisation that deals with local authoritiy claims, to take a tougher stand against claims.
“They (IPB) are very slow,” she said. “We (council) should not be telling them what to do because I believe that every claim should be denied.”
