Processing of household charge criticised

During last week’s Longford Town Council budget meeting, Cllr Michael Connellan (FF) said that problems had emerged with regard to the processing of the Household Charge by local authorities.

During last week’s Longford Town Council budget meeting, Cllr Michael Connellan (FF) said that problems had emerged with regard to the processing of the Household Charge by local authorities.

“There is no proper procedure in place for processing the applications,” the town representative fumed. “Payments are not being identified correctly, on what now appears, to be a totally inadequate system. The matter must be addressed because people are producing receipts which indicate that they have paid the charge and yet the local authority can’t identify the payment.”
