There is much sadness in Leitrim and Carrigallen following the tragic death on Thursday, November 2, 2023 of John Harkness.
The father of three and dairy farmer from Aughavore, Carrigallen, Co Leitrim died following a farm accident.
Gardaí, the fire service and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) attended the scene and the HSA confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the incident.
The St. Joseph’s Ladies Football Club U-16 B Cup Final against Drumkeeran fixed for tomorrow, Sunday, November 5, has been postponed as a mark of respect to the Harkness family.
John Harkness is predeceased by his father Jim.
He will be very sadly missed by his heartbroken wife Paula, sons Mark and Jonathan, daughter Claire, mother Bertha, brothers Alan (Siofra), Robert (Ruth) Winston (Daphne), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, uncle and aunts, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Many tributes have been paid to the late John Harkness. One person posted on Facebook, "John will be remembered as a kind hearted hard working friend and neighbour to many in the Carrigallen community."
the late John Harkness will be Resting at the family home (H12 E972) on Saturday, November 4, from 2pm - 6pm.
A one way system will operate during reposing times. Enter from the Kilbracken side and exit via Sonnagh on the Arva road. Please follow the directions of the stewards.
Funeral cortege leaving the family home on Sunday afternoon, November 5, via Sonnagh, arriving at Carrigallen Parish Church at 2pm for funeral service followed by burial in the adjoining churchyard.
Family flowers only please, donations, in lieu, would be much appreciated by the family to "Embrace Farm" c/o Clive Magee Funeral Director or any family member.
