Global healthcare leader Abbott is celebrating twenty years of delivering excellence in diagnostics from the company’s manufacturing facility in Longford.
Abbott is a leading innovator in the field of diagnostics and its Longford site has received numerous awards thanks to the Longford team’s record of deliver cutting-edge solutions to improve global healthcare.
Diagnostic testing provides information that helps in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a range of health conditions.
Over the past two decades, Abbott’s Longford facility has remained at the forefront of innovation, consistently pushing boundaries to improve patient outcomes. The site's commitment to research and development has led to groundbreaking advances in diagnostics, revolutionising the way healthcare professionals diagnose and treat various medical conditions.
Established in 2003, Abbott’s diagnostics facility in Longford was the company’s second diagnostics facility opened in Ireland, following from the establishment of operations in Sligo in 1994.
The Longford facility spans 180,000 sq. ft., located on a 20-acre greenfield site in Lisnamuck on the outskirts of the town.
Abbott’s Longford facility has received several commendations for its work, including the IMDA Med Tech Company of the Year in 2015 and the prestigious Shingo Prize in 2016, awarded by University of Utah and the Shingo Institute for Operational Excellence.
Over the past two decades Abbott has maintained a steadfast commitment to the midlands community, raising over €100,000 for both local and national charities. This has included a longstanding sponsorship of the Longford Marathon and support for local schools such as Lanesboro and their sponsorship of Abbott Longford’s charity of choice, St Joseph’s National School.
Abbott is also a partner with TUS supporting the development of a course for ‘Lean management and quality systems’.
