Investigations into spate of road accidents

Gardai are investigating a number of road traffic incidents this week.

On Monday, August 13, at 3.45am at Shroid on the Dublin Road (from Longford town), a vehicle collided with an ESB pole and was found in a nearby ditch. There were no injuries.

On Saturday, August 11, the Athlone Road was the site of a collision in the Cartronageeragh area at 10.45am. The incident is being investigated and involved a Nissan Micra and an Audi A4. There were no injuries.

Both vehicles have been taken away for a PSV (Public Service Vehicle) inspection and Gardai are investigating the matter further.

Also on Saturday, August 11, there was a three car collision at the Strokestown Road at 3pm.

The occupants were taken to MIdlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar. The injuries were non-serious and all were released that evening.

An individual was breathalysed at the scene and arrested on suspicion of drink driving. The fire brigade and ambulance services were also called to the scene where one driver was cut from the vehicle. All three vehicles are now with Gardai for PSV inspection.

On the same date at 7pm at Carriglass, there was a single vehicle collision where the driver hit a ditch. There were no injuries.

On Sunday, August 12, at 7pm on Dublin Street, there was a report of a Toyota Landcruiser colliding with a traffic island and damaging a lamppost and flower pot.

The registration was Longford (LD) 07. Gardai are now examining CCTV footage.
