Gardaí are on the hunt for two suspects who made off with up to €4,000-worth of jewellery during a raid in Longford town at the weekend.
Chains and bracelets were among the items stolen from a jeweller’s on Dublin Street shortly after 2pm on Saturday, gardaí have confirmed.
From CCTV footage taken from the scene, one of the suspects appears to distract an unsuspecting shop attendant while the other lurks in the background.
Gardaí believe the second suspect then grabbed a tray of gold chains and bracelets before hiding the items in a handbag.
The shop attendant who had been dealing with the other suspect can then be seen trying to snatch the handbag out of the second suspect’s hand as the pair make their getaway.
In a separate incident last week, a Longford woman endured a very frightening experience when she was threatened at knifepoint in her home.
It is believed that two men entered the victim’s residence before threatening her with a knife.
A mobile phone was taken during the raid as the men escaped on foot.
Two men were later arrested in the vicinity in relation to the incident.
