Kilbride calls public meeting over representation for Edgeworthstown

Ousted Longford County Councillor, Frank Kilbride has called a public meeting tomorrow evening (Wednesday) to discuss the fallout from the recent local elections.

Mr Kilbride, who lost out in the Granard electoral area after 15 years of service, wants to address what he believes is a democratic deficit facing certain parts of north Longford.

The Longford businessman revealed his intentions on his own Facebook page this week, saying: “A public meeting has been called by Frank Kilbride, and chaired by him, in relation to the recent election results in north Longford that has left Granard, Edgeworthstown, Killoe, Colmcille and Mullinalaghta from having any direct council representative.”

Mr Kilbride said the meeting, scheduled for 8pm at The Park House Hotel, Edgeworthstown, was not personally or politically motivated.

“Since I lost out, the number of people who have come up to me has been unbelievable. Sure, you only have to look at it, there are four councillors now living within ten miles of each other,” he said.

Despite his own disappointment, he vowed to continue to uphold the interests of the general public going forward.

It comes a little over a week since Mr Kilbride disclosed his intentions to run in the next general election as an Independent candidate.
