There is a deep sense of shock over the death of Longford/Westmeath Deputy, Nicky McFadden who died following a short illness earlier today, Tuesday.

McFadden was elected a TD for Longford/Westmeath in the 2011 General Election, and was a member of Seanad Éireann on the Administrative Panel from 2007 to 2011. She also served as a Local Area Representative in Athlone prior to her election to Seanad Eireann.

Diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease in 2012, the late TD was determined to stay on in her position notwithstanding her illness, and had been tabling written Dáil questions as recently as this month when she asked Minister Shatter about the situation with her constituency remand centre.

Niicky McFadden is survived by her two adult children, Caren and Eoin and will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. RIP.
