A group of six students from St Mel’s College, Longford, have made it onto the shortlist for the next round of the 2014 NDC Milk It Awards.
Second year students Troy Thompson, Tommy McDonagh, Thomas Igoe, Oran Malone, Andrew Gallagher and David Heffernan created a pitch for their “The Agents of Dairy” campaign.
The competition invites secondary school students to form an advertising campaign on a dairy product. The St Mel’s students have chosen milk as their dairy product, with their campaign targeted at their own age group as well as primary school students.
One of the students found the campaign online, and after recruiting five team members, went to teacher Sive McGuinness for guidance on the project.
Though Ms McGuinness keeps an eye on their progress, all the ideas which have come up so far (including a website, Twitter and Facebook pages, a game and an App) have come from the students themselves.
The six boys now have until the end of March to start rolling out the campaign they described in their pitch. It is then that the 100 shortlisted schools will be brought down to 20 finalists.
