Longford town native and double Olympian, Ray Flynn was recently honoured by his alma mater, East Tennessee State University.

Longford town native and double Olympian, Ray Flynn was recently honoured by his alma mater, East Tennessee State University.

He ran 89 sub four minute miles and still hold the Irish mile record which he set in 1982.

He now operates the successful Flynn Sports Management company which represents several of the world’s top athletes. Married in the States with three young children, he is a frequent visitor home and was in fact back to visit family and friends in Longford in recent days.

Eldest of nine children, he was Irish and British schools 1500m champion in 1974 and accepted a track scholarship to the US University
