It is the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day this Tuesday (March 8th) and Longford Women’s Link (LWL) will host a unique celebration at their headquarters in Ardnacassa, Longford.
From 12.30pm to 2.30pm, the doors will open to an acknowledgement of the achievements by women in Ireland. This will include a ‘day in the life’ feature which looks at what it means to be a woman in Ireland today and a luncheon.
“There has always been tension about whether International Women’s Day is a time for celebration or a day for protest. It should be all of these things: a time to reflect on the progress achieved in claiming women’s rights through much sacrifice and the occasion to reject continuing inequality and the denial of rights,” said a spokesperson for LWL. “This year we are putting the spotlight on celebrating the achievements, particularly here in Longford Women’s Link.”
