Sheila Hopkins has organised two fundraisers this Halloween weekend in Newtownforbes to raise funds for Pieta House.
PJ Murphy Hall plays host to ‘Fright Fest’ on Friday, October 31. This three hour extravaganza of fun packed with music, games, face painting, Halloween treats and lots more gets underway from 5pm.
While on Sunday, November 2, a family 5km walk will depart from the Newtownforbes complex at 12 noon (registration for an adult is €10 & €5 for children and it begins at 10.30am). Participants can walk, run or jog and be as creative they wish in their attire.
Sheila told the ‘Leader’, “Both events promise to be a fun packed and more importantly we will be raising crucial funds for Pieta House.”
She added, “We want to help bring about social change by raising awareness of the free help that is out there for people.”
Sheila said that Friday’s Fright Fest provides parents and guardians with the perfect opportunity to ensure their children enjoy the Halloween festivities in a safe and supervised environment all for just €5 per child (€2 extra for face painting).
Pieta House is a charity that is very close to Sheila’s heart and she remarked, “We all know exercise is a crucial part of positive mental health and we want to get everyone out to show how a run/jog can be fun and not a chore. Also if people would like to bring a photo or a reminder of someone they have lost to suicide there will be a memorial area set up for the duration of the walk to show loved ones we are remembering them.”
If anyone would like to volunteer to help out at these events or wishes to sponsor treats, contact Sheila at 087 4157111. Sheila would like to thank everyone for their help to date and those who have kindly donated to make both events possible.
