Longford councillor seeks update on Greenway project

Delays in the progress of the Royal Canal greenway regeneration were raised at the May meeting of Longford Municipal District authority.

The Canal Gateway project delays were highlighted by Cllr Gerry Warnock (Ind) who asked for an update on the Longford Connected Public Realm Enhancement Project (LCPREP).

The Canal Gateway project was flagged as a key regeneration project.

In December '21 Longford County Council opened tenders for the new pedestrian route linking the end of the Royal Canal greenway walk to the centre of the town.

A brace from striker Enda Curran and another goal from substitute Stephen Christopher gave Treaty United  a deserved  win over ten-man Longford Town in a bad tempered clash at Bishopsgate on Saturday night that produced three red cards.

The route would follow the original path of the now filled in segment of the canal, travelling under the Irish Rail underpass and terminating at Harbour Square.

Tributes pour in for "gentle giant" motorcyclist killed in Longford road crash

A motorcyclist tragically killed in a crash involving a tractor in Co Longford yesterday has been remembered as a "gentle giant".

 

Director of Services for Planning, Regeneration and Capital Projects, John Brannigan, said the project is gone to tender, but there is no status update as yet on when it will start.

The MD was told that it would be discussed at a regeneration meeting later that week.
