Longford Fine Gael local election candidate Yvonne Ní Mhurchú will appear on TG4’s programme “Róisín” this evening Monday, March 31 at 8pm.
Ms Ní Mhurchú was invited to participate in the programme ‘Mná sa Pholaitíocht’ – ‘Women in Politics’ with presenter Róisín Ní Eadhra. She will be one of four women on a panel to discuss the ever topical issue of women in politics and gender equality.
Ms Ní Mhurchú noted that in the last General Election more women were elected than ever before.
The new legislation (Electoral Amendment Political Funding Bill 2011) encourages political parties to run at least 30 percent candidates of either gender. This new bill is aimed at increasing the number of women in the Dáil.
Ms Ní Mhurchú remarked, “More female voices are needed in Irish Politics to tackle societal imbalances and I am thrilled to see that political parties are actively supporting efforts to encourage more women to become active in politics”.
Tune into TG4 this evening at 8pm.
