Longford County Council are coming under increasing pressure this week to pass on dramatic business rate reductions to businesses countywide ahead of a crucial local authority budget meeting next week, the Leader has learned.

Longford County Council are coming under increasing pressure this week to pass on dramatic business rate reductions to businesses countywide ahead of a crucial local authority budget meeting next week, the Leader has learned.

In fact, both Longford Chamber of Commerce and its north Longford equivalent in Granard revealed to this newspaper in recent days that members have set their sights on seeking a five per cent climbdown in rate charges for next year.

It comes as councillors look to strike an overall figure on commercial premiums over the next 12 months at its finance meeting next Monday (December 19).
