Three men arrested in connection with a garda investigation into a post office robbery at Strokestown, Co Roscommon last Tuesday, March 4, have been released without charge.
Two masked men, one of whom was believed to be carrying a firearm, entered the premises and threatened staff and customers before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash and escaping in a silver Volvo car in the direction of Longford town. The vehicle subsequently crashed at Foigha on the road between Ballymahon and Lanesboro. Two men in their 20s were arrested at the scene and brought to Roscommon Garda Station, where they were detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
A third man, also in his 20s, was arrested yesterday, Wednesaday, March 5, in relation to the incident and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
After questioning, the three men were released from Roscommon Garda Station this morning without charge. Files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
