Plans are well underway to make this year's entry into the National Tidy Towns' competition yield dividends when it comes to the 2011 judging season. It is hoped that DTT will build significantly on previous years' efforts and be up there with the top 3 in the county – i.e. Ardagh, Newtowncashel, and Abbeyshrule.

Since October the group has met several times to research and plan our strategy for the 2011 season – much has been achieved to date, but to gain extra marks in any of the 10 categories of Tidy Towns', much more needs to be done and will need serious commitment. Already a number of larger projects around the village that have potential have been identified, and currently are being researched. However, all Tidy Towns' supporters can make their own significant contribution by simply going outside their premises and seeing what needs a lick of paint or a power wash or indeed removing the weeds or litter in the kerbing. Tidy Towns' will continue as usual to do the bigger jobs – the getting ready for the new judging season and all that entails.

The harsh winter has exposed much litter and waste on all approaches to the village and the Drumlish TT volunteers will have their 1st Clean Up Day on Saturday Feb. 19th -all gathering at 10.30 opposite the Post Office on Main Street where the action plan will be unfolded and people dispatched with their team leader for the task in hand.

We know that there are many who have expressed an interest in becoming involved in the local Tidy Towns'- please contact any of the undersigned Annette Kane 086 8141023, Marie Kenny 087 6977411, Tommy McVeigh 086 3963678, Gillian O'Reilly 087 2884934 if you share our vision, or simply just turn up on the 19th.

Please report any litter fouling to Longford Litter Hotline 1850 434 450
