The Longford Slashers team celebrate after their side's victory during the 2022 currentaccount.ie LGFA All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship Final
Longford Chamber of Commerce is delighted to officially announce that the All Ireland Intermediate Club Champions, the Slashers Ladies team will lead this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade in Longford Town.
The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Glan agus Glas,’ and the event on Friday March 17 aims to shine a light on the importance of sustainability in our communities, homes and businesses.
SENSORY AREA
After a hugely successful pilot last year, a sensory area will be available at Longford Cinema to provide a safe and comfortable space for children and adults with disabilities to enjoy the festivities. The sensory area will be a bright and colourful space, with seating and standing room, for individuals with disabilities to enjoy the parade without having to join the crowd.
Parade participants will be advised to lower their volume as their floats pass the sensory space.
A designated wheelchair accessible viewing area is also being provided at AIB on Main Street.
GRAND MARSHAL
This year’s parade may be all about going green, but the Grand Marshal spot will be proudly decked out in blue and white as the event honours Longford’s All Ireland Intermediate Club Champions, the Longford Slashers Ladies team.
Parade attendees will also be treated to some fabulous performances, including displays by the Peelo School of Dance, Bula Bula Samba Band, St Teresa’s National School Band.
SPONSORS
The parade this year is proudly sponsoed by the Longford Municipal District, and the main commercial sponsor of the event is Kiernan Structural Steel.
An additional contribution has been made personally by Councillor Seamus Butler.
Entrants and attendees are being encouraged to interpret the theme ‘Glan agus Glas’ which translates to ‘Clean and Green,’ in their own unique way.
The St Patrick’s Day parade will get underway at 1pm on Friday.
