Cllr John Duffy took a hands-on approach to his election campaign recently, as the Sales Consultant and part-time Farmer helped calve a cow while canvassing.

The Fine Gael Councillor was out canvassing in his local area, when he visited the house. Speaking to the Leader, Cllr Duffy explained that when he called in to the couple, who are in their 60’s, they were just about to pull the calf out.

“I just went into the shed with them and rolled up the sleeves,” he states. “These things happen when you’re from the rural area.”

Cllr Duffy continued, “it wouldn’t want to be done in every house! The couple were thankful to get the help,” he adds.

The Councillor stayed and helped to deliver a ‘good healthy calf’, before returning to his canvassing.

“There might have been a smell of cow or calf off me, but no-one passed any remarks,” Cllr Duffy laughs.
