Grace Feeney from Clonkeen is planning a trip to India this summer, where she will aid the Hope Foundation in its work with street children.
The 19-year-old, who is currently studying Commerce and Chinese at UCD, will work at an orphanage in the city of Kolkata.
“I’ll be there from June 4 until August 5 and I’ll be helping with the schools programme and with activities for the kids,” she explianed. “I could also be going out in an ambulance at night to check the streets. I’m expecting to see some real poverty.”
Grace, who is a daughter of Sean and Claire Feeney, revealed she has raised most of the €2,500 needed to make the trip.
“I’ve raised €2,000 through sponsored bag-packing, and donations from family and friends. My old school, Ardagh NS, also had a board game day.
“I also had a coffee morning at the cathedral centre and I’m planning another one for my college friends,” she added.
“It’s my first time doing something like this and hopefully it won’t be my last.
