Megan McKeon and Eva Wilson
Two Junk Kouture pieces designed and created by the talented TY students of Cnoc Mhuire, Granard, Longford have qualified for the Junk Kouture Regional Finals.
‘Because We Can’ made by Megan Warren and Eva Wilson using Coca-Cola Cans is one of the contenders. It supports Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by showing how waste can be reused in creative ways.

The skirt is made from flattened aluminium can pieces, keeping the brand’s red colour while adding texture. The top is carefully assembled from cutouts of cans to create a stylish, structured look. The headpiece, made from aluminium can strips, represents renewal and sustainability.

Ruffled shoulder details and a can-turned-accessory highlight how trash can become a piece of art. “Because We Can” encourages people to rethink waste and see the beauty in recycled fashion.

The other, dubbed ‘Sweet Dreams’ is made from plastic food wrappers and was created by Anna Tully, Eabha O’Hara and Megan McKeon. Inspired by Katy Perry’s California Gurls heart dress, this creation highlights sustainability and creativity.
To enhance the design, they added glitter to the fans, crafted sweet-shaped embellishments from candy wrappers, and repurposed old heels with beads and bows.

The headpiece, made from a croissant package, completed the look. Sweet Dreams is more than a dress—it’s a statement on sustainability, creativity, and re-imagining the possibilities of fashion.
The regional finals will be taking place on Thursday, 6 March in The Helix in Dublin. The two will be hitting the runway on the second of the two regional finals, tickets are sold out so it's bound to be a great night for all present.
