Longford Municipal District Meet the Candidate: Dave Smyth, People Before Profit Solidarity

Dave Smyth is a broadcast engineer and he lives in Newtownforbes village with his wife Barbara. They have three adult children aged 27, 22 and 18. Dave is the People Before Profit candidate in the Longford Municipal District.

He says he has ‘experienced all the challenges faced by our young people directly’ adding, “I am all too aware of the underlying problems that decades of neglect by Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have brought to Longford with their fondness for merely playing lip service to the real issues, while working hard to keep their wealthy friends happy at the expense of wider society - the rest of us!”

Dave has been politically active for over thirty years. He has been involved in organising and supporting many local and national campaigns on everything from housing and water charges to Marriage equality & Repeal of the 8th amendment.

Elected or not, Dave says he will continue to defend the vulnerable, support young people, stand in solidarity with workers, fight for real housing solutions that work and proper public services for all.

Dave believes Longford County Council needs a shake-up.

“I will not get transfers from the big parties, so please vote Dave Smyth No.1 on June 7 if you would like to see me elected. Change starts with political diversity and the outcome is in your hands, thank you."
