Longford Municipal District Meet the Candidate: Dwain Schouten, Independent
Independent candidate Dwain Schouten explains that his surname pronounced phonetically is ‘scout-ten’.
A single father, he works for BoyleSports in Longford town and says he decided to run because he believes ‘I can offer solutions and not soundbites. That I can help progress Longford to a new age of productivity and wealth’
Dwain continued, “My aim, if elected, would be to upgrade the sewage system in Longford town.
“By doing so I would hope to improve the power grid too by converting the gases generated into electricity. The waste product I would hope could be sold to local farmers, nurseries and beyond, with the water recycled for consumption.
“I would also like to build more homes and convert unused factories and warehouses into housing units too, whilst upgrading current homes to be more energy efficient.”
Dwain firmly believes that people should be listened to. He explains, “That's why if elected a councillor I would host public forums, open debates, highlight progress and listen to recommendations.
“I am putting myself forward to serve the good people of Longford town. In return I would spend my time listening to their concerns and championing their concerns and wants, and make access to local community grants simpler.”
Dwain concluded, “Big changes start with small steps. A vote for me is a vote for positive change.”
