Longford Local Elections 2024: Ensuring Longford is a safe, welcoming place

Longford Municipal District Meet the Candidate: Seamus Butler, Fianna Fáil

Husband to Marie (née Dolan) and father of five, Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Seamus Butler was educated at St Mel’s College, UCD and IMI. He has decided to go poster-free again this time around.

Cllr Butler, if elected, wants to ensure that Longford is a safe and welcoming place to live and work.

He also intends to continue to speak out on crime, policing and vital infrastructure. This includes the N4 Mullingar to Longford upgrade, IDA Advance Facility and community supports.

Cllr Butler is also a member of the LCC Regeneration Committee.

Cllr Butler is Managing Director of BMS, which he established in 1986 and exports worldwide and has products in over 50 countries.

Cllr Butler has been active in local community organisations in Longford for over 45 years and he played a pivotal role in the St Mel's cathedral restoration. He is also a founder member of Longford Tidy Towns.

Past positions that he has held include President of Longford Chamber of Commerce, Cathaoirleach of Longford Municipal District and also founder member and chairperson of Longford Community Resources Clg.

Cllr Butler has been vocal about criminality in the town in recent years. He said at a recent council meeting that footpaths in his own estate of College Park had not been updated since he moved there in the 1970’s.
