Longford Municipal District Meet the Candidate: Sadia Athar, Independent

Independent candidate Sadia Athar has been living in Ireland for the last 10 years with her family.


She has five school going children and is actively involved in the different community groups and has been volunteering for different local projects and events. She is an art graduate, and by profession, she is an artist. Sadia has also gained various qualifications in Management, Leadership and Politics.


Sadia is a strong advocate for equality, diversity, human rights, disability rights, and women's rights. “I have volunteered for art-related projects focusing on the wellbeing of disabled artists. I have worked with different women's organisations, to create awareness about violence against women and empower them socio economically.”


She has a keen interest in community development, especially the development of Longford town. “I understand the issues faced by the communities and aim to do my best to seek resolution of these issues. I like to promote peace, positivity, and harmony, and I try to express it through my art and my activism. I strongly believe in mutual respect, empowering communities, diversity, and inclusion.”


Sadia recently completed her See Her Elected (SHE) course and says, “I’ve been contributing to society through my volunteer work and I believe that being a councillor I will be in a better position to deliver effectively.”
