Ballymahon Municipal District Meet the Candidate: Mick Cahill, Fianna Fáil

Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Mick Cahill is one of the veterans of the council, having been first elected in 2004.


Married to midwife Carol, he is father of three children - Síona , Una and Aisling. Mick is a former Bord na Móna employee.


Cllr Cahill is very active in his local community. He is involved in the GAA, the Tidy Towns and the Parish Hall Committee.


Cllr Cahill has a practical, personal and responsive approach to being a councillor.


He has worked with groups all over the Ballymahon Municipal District to help deliver projects.


These include the development of The Yard Hub in Abbeyshrule, helping secure funding for Edgeworthstown Sports Hub and supporting Just Transition funding applications.


Cllr Cahill supports the provision of affordable housing and more streamlined support for local community groups from the local authority.


He also aims to fight for more funding for tourism initiatives in South Longford.


If re-elected, Cllr Cahill will fight for the development of pre and after school services to support parents.


He also wants continuous improvement on the local roads network in South Longford, to facilitate the extra tourism traffic in the area.


Cllr Cahill also wants to support local groups in the sustainable development of much needed cultural and recreational facilities across South Longford.
