Sunflowers for Love has raised over €18,000 for the Friends of the St Brigid’s Hospice on the Curragh.

Earlier this year, Imelda Corcoran together with her friend Vivienne Brophy wanted to spread some Sunflower Love.

“Imelda during her cancer treatment wanted to fundraise for the Hospice after seeing the care that my father Teddy (RIP) received in 2021,” commented Vivienne. “My brother Paul is a broccoli grower and with his support and guidance we planted a mix of sunflowers and summer flowers at my house. With the help of Imelda and so many of her friends and both families we sowed and tended the sunflowers all summer.”

When the sunflowers were in full bloom, friends and family came and picked the flowers and made a donation to the Hospice. “We had donations from all over Kildare, Longford, Kerry, USA and as far as Australia.”

Imelda, a native of Moyne, Co Longford, passed away on September 24 at St Brigid’s Hospice and last Saturday, December 10, Imelda’s husband Aidan, her daughter Lorna and her son Liam, together with Vivienne and her brother Paul presented a cheque to the amazing staff at the hospice.

Imelda and Teddy both led a life full of kindness and courage and their lust for life will live on following the donation to the Friends of St Brigid’s Hospice on the Curragh.

Aidan commented, “As a family, we are forever grateful to the wonderful team in St Brigid’s Hospice for the care that they showed Imelda in her final days. They are amazing.”
