There will be plenty of things to discover, explore and enjoy at the 86th Longford Ploughing Championships.

A variety of trades and services will feature in the exhibition stands, with a selection of new innovative machinery from local farm machinery dealerships. Trade stand enquiries can be directed to exhibition co-coordinator; John Maye on 087 7848206.

Johnston Farm Machinery are demonstrating the Bury range of disc harrows. Farmers can view the machine in action and consider the options for their reseeding projects. The new 8S range of Massey will appear in Granard also.

For decades, Longford Ploughing brought music, entertainment and celebrity guests to fields across the county and from 12 noon, there will be music and entertainment. Thanks to Creative Ireland Longford and Longford Live & Local, there will be a professional Gig Rig with sound system and crew on site for the first time ever. Longford Ploughing is delighted to share this stage with local acts all afternoon.

The outdoor dance floor is back again. A music mix including ‘4Degrees West’ and the John Dungan branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann featuring many other local acts awaits. This year’s Celebrity Ploughing contestant Country music star Stuart Moyles will join in too, before Farmer Phil, Jimmy Jests and fellow YouTubers take Stuart away and test his mettle on the ploughing field.

If you are hungry, you can enjoy a snack from Belle’s Kitchen marquee, John Rohan’s smoked treats and Joe Brady’s organic burgers.

Abbeylara GAA will have the ‘Hang Tough’ challenge among their selection of family games and Hazel McVeigh is organising the Dog Show.

For vintage enthusiasts Eamon Creamer, Gabriel Creamer and John Gilligan will display a few motors from yesteryear, which they are currently restoring.

And make sure you spruce up and look the part as someone is watching out for the Most Appropriately Dressed Lady, who will take home a hamper sponsored by Cllr Colin Dalton, Ballinalee.
