‘Walk The Walk’ is the name of an event organised by local GOAL volunteer Tiernan Dolan and it is taking place in The Mall (Albert Reynolds Peace Park), Longford town this evening, Wednesday, March 9 at 7pm.

It's aim is to show solidarity with Ukrainian refugees streaming across their borders as they flee the brutal and barbaric invasion of their country.

GOAL is currently working with local volunteers along the Polish Ukrainian border doing their utmost to help the vast amounts of people who have been forced to leave their homes with nothing but a back pack.

Tiernan has worked with GOAL in several conflict zones over many years and he said, "I never thought we'd witness such horrendous, heart breaking scenes so close to us in Europe. How often have we heard the words 'never again' and yet every day, we're witnessing horror stories unfold on our tv screens and on social media platforms.

“The feeling of helplessness is overwhelming but already the outpouring of support from Longford people has been amazing once again.”

Tiernan explained, “This walk on Wednesday in The Mall at 7pm is just an other small effort to show support and solidarity. Any donation is hugely appreciated and the amount raised will be published later that same evening and forwarded the very next day.”

He said Walk The Walk in aid of GOAL / Ukrainian refugees being held at 7pm just as darkness falls because this war has plunged us into a darkness and it's a walk because so many mothers and children are fleeing the war by walking.

iernan concluded, “Even if it's wet and windy, the walk will go ahead. It may be only a small contribution from Longford but it's a contribution nevertheless. "
